There were 10 people in the meeting:

Angelina

June

Emeli

Tayshayla

Tai

Thomas

Edward

Kim

Roman

Cindy

We talked about volunteering for the Welcome Bash on Thursday and now need volunteers for Tuesday’s games in the Library from 11-2. Please volunteer on Jan 23. Let Cindy know if you can volunteer.

If anyone sews, please let Cindy know as we are making hacky sacks for the Eclipse. We will give you the pattern and material.

We played some icebreaker games that involved drawing an island and making a story with one word. Also, members shared some of their creative work.

The next meeting is on 1/24 at 4 pm in room 211. We will send out a WebEx invitation for those who can’t make it in person.

Agenda ( 01-24-2024) (From the Desk of Angelina)

Hey everyone,

It was awesome to have been able to meet everyone at the 1/17 meeting! For
those who had to miss, I hope to see you at our next meeting on 01-24-2024 (next Wednesday) in Room 211 at the Hobby Memorial Library!

I want everyone to feel heard and included, so please lay out your ideas! If anxiety is all that is stopping you from reaching out, I will put my email at the bottom of this message so that you can reach out and be heard!

So without further adieu, here is the plan for next week's meeting!

  1. Meet and Greet / Little Icebreaker Activity
  2. In Guild Activity ( Iga )
  3. Assign Out Of Guild Activity (Ooga)
  4. Open Floor!
I want us to challenge each other in the next few weeks following this meeting by encouraging each other to write something we aren’t good at! A big part of a community is having each other's backs in struggling situations, so after we meet (and hopefully get to know each other a little bit) we’ll each choose a genre of creativity we aren’t as skilled in yet to grow our creative profile!

ex: if your a writer, say you struggle with descriptiveness, a good challenge might be: write a short descriptive story

or if you're an artist, and you struggle with drawing anatomy, a good challenge might be: to draw some hands, a skeleton, etc.

Going forward, I want everyone to feel comfortable in sharing the ideas (or goals) they have or aspire for within the group. Whether that be an activity for the day, or an outside prompt to work on in our downtime, I want this guild to feel like your own! So please don’t hesitate to share your thoughts and opinions with me or each other (as long as they are respectful and kind. No putting each other down!)

One last thing before I sign out!

This might feel like a lot, and I’m right there with you, challenges are hard and sometimes can be scary. However, there is no better feeling than accomplishing something you at first thought you couldn’t do!

I promise that this is a safe and open environment where you will not be judged, and your personality is allowed to shine!

Plus, this group’s whole purpose is to support each other through the pains of growth with the end goal of helping boost our skills to succeed in our creative endeavors!

As your Writer’s Guild president, until someone else is elected, I will take this goal seriously and help push each of you to be your best, because I know you all would do the same for me!

I hope to see you all on the 24, again in room 211 at the Hobby Memorial Library, building 240 at 4 pm!

Cindy will send out a WebEx invitation to everyone right before the next meeting in case you can't be there in person.

Sincerely,

Angelina Ortiz.
Writer Guild President.

Meeting Minutes November 29, 2023

Writers Guild Meeting Minutes November 29th, 2023

Attendance: Cindy, Tai, Angelina, Edward, Roman, Maki, June, Kim, Amare

From the desk of Cindy:

Do not send any club information sent via text. It creates many problems:

1) it creates a clique - those not in a text group are left out of fun idea-sharing

2) the information is often wrong if it was not seen and approved by the sponsor

3) it takes responsibility away from others. Example. You cannot text a member and tell them you are quitting as an officer or not coming to the meeting. It is not their job to relay your message. It is your responsibility to email the sponsor.

4) Only the Vice President (Edward) has the responsibility to post announcements in Discord. Only the sponsor (Cindy) emails club announcements. Disregard all texts as this is not an approved method of club communication and no one was given permission to speak for the club members in that manner.

From the desk of Tai:

Tai has moved to be the Student Government Representative, so she is no longer Secretary. If anyone wants to be Secretary, please email Cindy at coser2@ctcd.edu. The Secretary's job is to write the meeting minutes. While waiting to fill this position, we will rotate this duty between the President, Vice President, Student Government Representative, Treasurer and members in attendance. No officer can hold 2 positions at the same time, so we will all share this responsibility until it is filled.

We will be sharing snacks at the Dec 6 meeting, so please bring something small to share. It’s a party meeting, so we will be playing games and eating basically.

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • We need volunteers to man a table at the Anderson to talk about the Writers Guild on these days and times: Please email Cindy at coser2@ctcd.edu and let us know what slot you can work. Remember, this counts as an event toward getting your tee shirt.

  • Mon Jan 22 9:30-10:30               Mon Jan 22 11:30-12:30
  • Tues Jan 23 9:30-10;30               Tues Jan 23 11:30-12:30
  • Weds Jan 24 9:30-10:30             Weds Jan 24 11:30-12:30
  • Thurs Jan 25 9:30-10:30             Thurs Jan 25 11:30-12:30

Most important shifts: We need someone to man the table on Mon, Tues, Weds at 11:30 as Cindy can’t be there on those days at those times.

  •  We also need help at the Welcome Bash which is on Thursday, January 18 from 10am to 2pm.

The activity for today was that everyone wrote a title and put it in a bag. We drew from the bag and had to write something about the title. Then we created something after looking at the pictures in the meeting room for inspiration.

Our next meeting his next Weds Dec 6 at 4pm. See you then!

Nov 15, 2023 Meeting Minutes

From the Desk of Secretary Tai:

WG Meeting Minute November 15th, 2023

Attendances: Cindy, Angelina, Edward, Maki, Tai, Roman, Kim, Sania, Amare

WG meeting started at 4 PM, Cindy talked about Student Clubs and Organization’s video about no sexual, physical abuse/ harassment, be nice person to not ruin WG’s reputation. Please email Cindy to sign document saying you watched video. If you agree that we need to keep our group safe, please sign the attachement , scan it or take a picture of it and email it to coser2@ctcd.edu. Thanks!

Angelina the president had made Out of Guild Activity (O.O.G.A) for members to give ideas on what they want to do during meetings or after meetings to be creative/ Writing topic members bring to next meetings.  If you have any ideas please contact her via discord or email.

December 6th is our last Fall semester meeting of 2023.  We will have Potluck party everyone’s can bring their own snacks/ foods for the event. We can just socialize at the party and play board games.

We played Angelina’s In Guild Activity (E.E.A) (???) game about finding a photo or song that inspires you. Then we wrote a short story or essay about it then shared with group.

Our member Roman, gave a game idea: play heads or tails using a coin and then writing a story about a train poem.

An idea was to enter a group poem to Byways.

Any member who wants to join the project, please write 5 lines/ sentences about the future.  Only rule: No Sad/ Depression element. For this project, you must have been a CTC student in the summer, fall 2023 or spring 2024. The object is to put the poem together and enter it in the poetry category.

We are currently looking for someone to volunteer as Student Government Representative. We found we need more than one Representative as the meetings are every other week at the 1pm-3pm slot. Many of our students are in class at that time or working and can’t attend. If anyone in our group is available, would you consider volunteering? You must be a CTC student for this position. We are hoping to get at least 2 or 3 people for this job, so it’s not a burden on anyone. Please contact Cindy or Angelina via Discord to let us know you are interested. We may have to conduct this vote outside of the meeting, but it’s an important position that we need to fill. Our present officers have a job already and can’t take on both. Thank for considering helping out!

Our next WG meeting is on Nov 29th at 4:00 PM – 5::20 PM

Stuff

 Hi Creative Oxygen Breathers,

Before we get to Edward's meeting minutes, please consider volunteering for positions at the Haunted House

We have.........
Thomas and Angelina - guides with horror stories
Tai and Emeli - disturbed small children who play with horrifying dolls
Edward- Mad Scientist who rearranges children (don't be horrified)
Brandi - the mad librarian and who knows what she'll do if you are late with your books!
Keshia and McKenzie - evil clowns that plan to terrify at will (if Emma can sub, she'll go here too)
Amare- ventriloquist who will totally mess with everyone's minds

We need members in the Fall Festival room to help with the games
Me and Alyssa and the guy from the Career Center, William Jones will be in there.
We're hoping we have so far June, Sania, Roman, Emma A. , and Josue. You guys, please let me know if you will be there to help

The hours we need you are 6 pm -11 pm on Friday, October 20, and  on Saturday, October 21
If you can work all or some of the hours, please let us know ASAP, so we can put you on the schedule.

Just hit reply (not reply all) and say, "Yes! I'm ready, willing, and able to scare the beejeebees out of people!"
Or "I'm ready to watch small children attempt festival games."

Also.............................................if you truly want to be a serious author, you may want to stop by the library this Sunday 1-3pm for Author Day. We will have 12 published authors here who you can talk with. Four of our members, Josue, Ashley, Dez and Emma said they wanted to talk about their work, so they will have 5 minutes each after the authors are finished. Then you will get a chance to meet the authors and purchase their books if you'd like. I'll attach a flyer. Try to come!

And Now for Edward's Meeting Minutes..................

3:00pm-5:15pm

Tai               Edward          Emily
Amaree        Mckenzie       William
Angelina       June             Josue
Cindy           Sania

In this meeting, we discussed the Haunted House.  We divided up the things we need and will verify if we need more at the next meeting.  Please bring what you were asked to bring to the next meeting(Edward, I need that paper that I gave you. It had who's bringing what on the back).

We will be setting up the Haunted House room and Fall Festival on October 20 at 9:00 a.m. if you can help.  We have to all be at the Planetarium by 4 p.m. on October 20. Please do not be late. We will run through the games and Haunted House acting then.

At the next meeting, we will talk about cleaning up the Haunted House and Festival. But if we all work together, as soon as it's over on Saturday, we should be able to gather everything up quickly and toss it in my van.

There will be food for sale during both evenings, but if you don't want to spend money, please bring your food and drink and I'll keep it in the Festival Room for you.

To finish the meeting, we played a game where we had to make a horror story by each one making a sentence based from one word that was given to us. Lastly, there was the proposal of an activity that we will see more in the future, which consists of a writer volunteering to write, and another person will provide a character, genre, and plot for the volunteer to write about it and present it in the next meeting(or when the writer finishes it). :-)

Don't forget all this stuff!

See you at the next meeting on Oct 11,

New stuff and new members

 Hi guys,

We have 3 and possibly only one more person signed up for the Poetry Slam. Are any of you interested in participating? We don't want to cancel, but we will have to do a virtual one instead of an in-person one if more people don't register.

If you want to enter for either the in-person one or a virtual one, please register here: https://forms.gle/DTaVTsieb2Crqq5GA

If you want to enter virtually, send an MP4 video of yourself reciting the poems or doing your Open Mic act no later than Oct 10. If we get all the videos, we'll change the event to virtual and cancel the in-person.

But we have to know who wants to enter in-person or virtual no later than Oct 10. And you must register to perform. No late entries.

Here's the info

Plus please welcome a couple of new members. Welcome Maki and Professor Estringel. We're glad you're with us!
