Meeting Minutes March 27, 2024

 03/27/24 Writers Guild Meeting Minutes

Again…………. we need to vote in a Secretary. 😊 Just saying

There were 11 members in attendance: Maki, Ryan, Roman, June, Tajane, Gina, Thomas, Edward, Jeremiah, Amare and Cindy

We read Angelina’s agenda and assigned the Out of Guild activity: Write or draw about a time when a backstabbing (literal or metaphorical) goes wrong. This should be interesting to see what everyone writes. Just a thought – does it ever go right? 😊 Just saying. We shall see what everyone comes up with.

Our In Guild Activity was to imagine an alien species crash lands on Earth. We each had to come up with the species that landed, where they landed, whether they were good guys or bad guys, what allegiances did they have and did it have a good or terrible ending.

Then we each took over our parts of the story, intertwining our plots with each other. I will try and upload the recording we made in Discord to show where this story went. It was fun and a great story!

It's uploaded in Discord

Our next meeting is next Weds, April 3 at 4 pm

Also, I want to remind you guys that 3 of our Writers Guild members are in the CTC play, so let’s support them and go out on April 18, 19, or 20th at 7 pm or April 20th at 2 pm to cheer them on!

Have a great week!

Meeting Minutes March 7, 2024

March 6 meeting minutes

There were 10 members present at the meeting:

Gina, William, Edward, June, Jeremiah, Stephen, Amare, Tai, Cindy and Thomas

We briefly discussed working the Eclipse Day.

Our volunteers: Angelina, Amare, June, Jeremiah, Savannah and Tajane. Savannah and Tajane, email me because we have to talk about arrival time and departure time.

We have Angelina and Amare coming in the early hours (7 or 8am)

Jeremiah, June and Tajane coming later - around 10am (you will have a ton of traffic and may need to be dropped off at the hospital and walk, think about coming earlier)

Savannah coming at the end with Amare staying to help pick up. Savannah you will encounter traffic. Text me before coming in case we are picking up the booth.

We will share phone numbers before that day to find each other ok?

Then we worked on Byways entries. Due date March 15! We laughed and created. 😊

Next meeting March 20.

Be safe during Spring Break!

Meeting Minutes 2/21/2024

 Writers Guild meeting minutes 2/21/2024

From the Desk of Cindy (guys, we need to vote in a new Secretary…just saying….and a Treasurer)

13 Members in attendance:

Jeremiah, William, Ryan, Amare, Josue, Tajané, June, Tai, Savannah, Kim, Edward, Don, Cindy

It was a working meeting. We made posters with misspelled words, stuffed stress balls, attempted to make comets, and discussed who was working at the Eclipse event.

Eclipse Day, Monday, April 8 – school is closed that day

  • We have the following people scheduled to work at the Eclipse event: Angelina, Amare, Savannah, Tajané, and Jeremiah (I think you said you could do it...let me know). Did I miss anyone?
  • We could use one or two more. Whoever works it, needs to be committed to showing how great the group is and can stay for a few hours.
  • Please let me know ASAP who will work it. We have to cover the booth from 7/8 am until at least 4 pm.
  • I could use help with setting up, so if you can be there by 7 am, please let me know.

We also posted photographs and members wrote stories, thoughts, and poems about them.

We also shared our character analysis and talked about what type of writing we liked to do.

Cindy bugged everyone again about entering Byways. Link for Byways https://www.ctcd.edu/academics/library/byways/. Deadline March 15. We will not accept even one day late as we have less judging time.

Welcome our new members Jeremiah, Don, and Ryan! We’re glad you’re here!

Please let me know if you can’t get into Discord.

Here’s our blog link https://ctcwritersguild.blogspot.com/. If you want access to our blog you must send Cindy a gmail email. It doesn’t take eaglemail. I will send invitations to those members who gave me their personal email.

Agenda for Feb 21 Writers Guild Meeting

 Greetings Persons of Creativity,

From the desk of Cindy...

You guys are all very talented writers and artists. We don't have many Byways entries for poetry, short stories, and music lyrics. We have none for metalwork, music score, sculpture and short plays. Drawing, digital art, painting, and poetry need more. So make sure you don't miss the Byways deadline of March 15. We only have 2 meetings before the deadline, so make sure you share your work, register your work, send your work, and be a part of CTC history!

One more thing...…..remember that questionnaire I sent in the last meeting minutes? Yep. I need you to answer the questions. I'll post it at the end.

One more, more thing...….we have new members (Tayshayla, Savannah, Tajane, Eugenia, and Jeremiah, so make sure to give them a welcome in Discord and at the meetings)

Ok. And now From the Desk of Angelina...

Agenda for the 21st of February,

Hello,

I hope everyone is faring well, and had a wonderful week!
I am going to keep this agenda short this time so without further adieu, here is the plan for our next meeting:

1. Meet and greet

2. Open the floor for new info from our sponsor, aka Cindy

3.Workshop, (aka, labor for our sales at the eclipse)

4.(To be done at the same time as three) Share our works and just open the floor to discussions!
I know it's not much for activities, so if anyone has any ideas, please bring them with you to our next meeting, we are mainly going to use our time to prepare for the eclipse by tracing/cutting the necessary fabric!

As always, I can’t wait to see everyone there!

Sincerely,
Angelina Ortiz
Writer Guild President.

January 24 Meeting Minutes

 Greetings Earthlings,

1/24/2024 Meeting Minutes

We had 8 people in the meeting:

Maki, Kim, Angelina, June, Tajané, Tai, Edward,  and Cindy
  1. We discussed tee shirt requirements
  2. Started with a meet and greet
  3. Did a “This is Me” activity
  4. Discussed budget and voted to buy notebooks, pens, and pencils for the group so everyone can keep their work together. Please let Cindy know if you want a left-handed notebook.
  5. Wrote a silly poem
  6. Out-of-guild activity: Start a personal story and be very descriptive. Try to write at least the introduction and bring it to the next meeting
We have new members! Welcome Shay, Tajané, and Savannah!

Remember these guild guidelines:
  • Announcements in Discord are only made by Edward. You can share your work, but only Edward’s posts have been approved for announcements. Texts are not approved, so check with the Discord announcements when looking for Guild answers.

Other stuff:
  • If anyone has ideas or activities, please contact Angelina well before the next meeting, so she can add them to the agenda. You can send it to Angelina or me (coser2@ctcd.edu) and I’ll get it to her.
  • In the next few meetings, we should consider nominating a Secretary and a Treasurer. The Secretary takes down what happened in the meeting and writes the meeting minutes. Then they send it to me for approval, I email it out and put it on the blog and Edward posts it. The treasurer keeps track of our budget. Just consider it and after a few meetings, we will vote. You have to be a student to hold an office.

Next Meeting Feb 7
I attached the flyer

Thanks and have a great rest of your day,

1/17/2024 Meeting Minutes and 1/24/24 Meeting Agenda

 Writers Guild 01/17/2024 Meeting Minutes

There were 10 people in the meeting:

Angelina

June

Emeli

Tayshayla

Tai

Thomas

Edward

Kim

Roman

Cindy

We talked about volunteering for the Welcome Bash on Thursday and now need volunteers for Tuesday’s games in the Library from 11-2. Please volunteer on Jan 23. Let Cindy know if you can volunteer.

If anyone sews, please let Cindy know as we are making hacky sacks for the Eclipse. We will give you the pattern and material.

We played some icebreaker games that involved drawing an island and making a story with one word. Also, members shared some of their creative work.

The next meeting is on 1/24 at 4 pm in room 211. We will send out a WebEx invitation for those who can’t make it in person.

Agenda ( 01-24-2024) (From the Desk of Angelina)

Hey everyone,

It was awesome to have been able to meet everyone at the 1/17 meeting! For
those who had to miss, I hope to see you at our next meeting on 01-24-2024 (next Wednesday) in Room 211 at the Hobby Memorial Library!

I want everyone to feel heard and included, so please lay out your ideas! If anxiety is all that is stopping you from reaching out, I will put my email at the bottom of this message so that you can reach out and be heard!

So without further adieu, here is the plan for next week's meeting!

  1. Meet and Greet / Little Icebreaker Activity
  2. In Guild Activity ( Iga )
  3. Assign Out Of Guild Activity (Ooga)
  4. Open Floor!
I want us to challenge each other in the next few weeks following this meeting by encouraging each other to write something we aren’t good at! A big part of a community is having each other's backs in struggling situations, so after we meet (and hopefully get to know each other a little bit) we’ll each choose a genre of creativity we aren’t as skilled in yet to grow our creative profile!

ex: if your a writer, say you struggle with descriptiveness, a good challenge might be: write a short descriptive story

or if you're an artist, and you struggle with drawing anatomy, a good challenge might be: to draw some hands, a skeleton, etc.

Going forward, I want everyone to feel comfortable in sharing the ideas (or goals) they have or aspire for within the group. Whether that be an activity for the day, or an outside prompt to work on in our downtime, I want this guild to feel like your own! So please don’t hesitate to share your thoughts and opinions with me or each other (as long as they are respectful and kind. No putting each other down!)

One last thing before I sign out!

This might feel like a lot, and I’m right there with you, challenges are hard and sometimes can be scary. However, there is no better feeling than accomplishing something you at first thought you couldn’t do!

I promise that this is a safe and open environment where you will not be judged, and your personality is allowed to shine!

Plus, this group’s whole purpose is to support each other through the pains of growth with the end goal of helping boost our skills to succeed in our creative endeavors!

As your Writer’s Guild president, until someone else is elected, I will take this goal seriously and help push each of you to be your best, because I know you all would do the same for me!

I hope to see you all on the 24, again in room 211 at the Hobby Memorial Library, building 240 at 4 pm!

Cindy will send out a WebEx invitation to everyone right before the next meeting in case you can't be there in person.

Sincerely,

Angelina Ortiz.
Writer Guild President.
